TASK 5

Fear and Respect

Humans are intelligent and are on a higher level than that of animals. We have the ability of reasoning, thought, progress and inventiveness. We react to the feelings shown by every person. We will be discussing about fear and respect and difference between them.

Philosopher John Locke described fear as “Fear is an uneasiness of the mind, upon the thought of future evil likely to befall us.” Fear means being afraid of or panic like fear of strangers, heights, dark places, etc. On the other hand respect is defined as positive feeling of esteem for a person or entity and also the regard and consideration shown by an individual towards others. In fact, giving someone respect seems similar to valuing them and their thoughts, feelings, etc. It also seems to include acknowledging them, listening to them, being truthful with them, and accepting their individuality and idiosyncrasies.

There are ways people react to these two feelings. If a person is a leader and is suppressing and ruling people by strength, power and tyranny then the people are sure to follow him because of fear as he is tyrant. But if the same person is leading people by kindness, love and by being helpful then people will follow him with due respect. That is how fear and respect differs the feeling and reaction of people.

Nowadays it seems much more possible to survive without being respected. Someone could, for example, inherit a large sum of money, have many servants and employees and have salesmen constantly calling on him and catering to him, yet not be respected in the least. Someone could also make a lot of money through having a particular talent which is valued, such as being able to dunk a basketball yet not really be respected, perhaps because of the way he treats others. And those who are under him may be obeying him due to fear.
Still, there is a value to respect which money can't buy. Though someone's life might not depend on it, there are times, many times in fact, when another person has the chance to make a personal decision - a judgment call. When that person feels sincere respect for someone else, they will make a different decision than if they feel no respect, even if they have customarily shown a false, pseudo-respect to the person. And that is the time when he will be outcast because he is not respected at all.

So, fear and respect are two different things that influence people in very different ways.

TASK 3

Arrogance and confidence can be defined as “having or showing an exaggerated opinion of one’s own importance, merit, ability” and “belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities” respectively.
Confidence is not the feeling that you are better than others but it is the feeling when you feel the best one. It is not a comparative feeling but it is a feeling that you have in yourself. It is also a feeling that comes from support. It is the feeling that makes you think that you are capable of doing something with ease and calmness. It makes you optimistic and pleased with you.

Arrogance is one of the negative personality traits of a human. We all have the potential for arrogant tendencies, but if they become an enduring, dominant pattern then one is said to have a chief features of arrogance.

Arrogant and confidence are two different things that we sometimes take them as one. When people are arrogant they view themselves as superiors whereas confident people believe themselves in their talents. Arrogant people always know what’s better for others when confident people are open about their objectives and potential. Arrogant people are incisive in their transactions with others, they never like to admit the mistakes that they do and always point and criticize the mistakes that others make whereas confident people are gifted competitors, they aren’t afraid to recognize their missteps instead they try to overcome them by doing it better the next time and they are always ready to help others, correct their slipups so that they too will be able to strengthen their weaknesses.

Confidence is a personal trait. A self-assured person doesn't care what others think about him. The arrogant, however, will be very conscious of how the world sees and treats him. It is what fuels his smugness. He is the center of his world, which can often be a symptom of a buried feeling of inferiority. The only way he can value himself is by putting down and overcoming those who surround him. The confident gentleman is therefore a sea of tranquility next to the hostile narcissist.

Confidence is a positive aspect of a person whereas arrogance is the negative aspect of human behavior. Confidence helps people to develop a good mental aspect so that people can work accordingly and be successful. But arrogance makes people think that they are above and better than everyone and hence leads to negative impact to oneself as well as others around them.

TASK 2

TASK 2

Roles played by me each day.
ð Son
ð Elder brother
ð Nephew
ð Student
ð Friend
ð Costumer

Every day is a new beginning and with it I try to change my life positively. I try to behave differently each day so that I can improve and reach my goal. I wake up in the morning and get ready for my college. I have my breakfast that my aunt prepares for me and then I come to college where I meet with my friends. They are the ones with whom I enjoy my times. They are always there for me when I need them. We enjoy each other’s company and when it’s time to sit and study we are serious and help each other when we are in any doubt.
In the college we go to class where our teacher begins the class with some humor to make the class interesting. We respect our teacher and listen and follow our teacher. We follow the slides and lectures accordingly. We submit our assignments in time and if we have any problems then our teacher is always ready to help us.
After college I join my family and we have our family discussions and have fun. My mother and father are working abroad for me and I am grateful and I respect them. I live with my aunt and my cousins and I respect my aunt and love my cousins. I help my aunt when she needs help. And I help my cousins with their studies and when they seek my help. With all these my day ends properly.

ð What are the things that I am trying to achieve and if I have succeeded?
In every day of my life I am trying to learn new things and work hard to achieve my dream to become a successful IT professional. I want to make my family happy. I am always trying to make my father and mother trust me more and more in my works and want them to guide me in my life that are full of obstacles. I also want to be a role model to my Youngers and want to give them guidance. I want to listen to my teachers, the things that they teach me and work hard on what I learnt from them to achieve my goal.
I have not yet succeeded as an IT professional as I am only a second year bachelor’s student but will work hard on it. In making my family happy I succeeded most of the time but have also made them sad when I have made mistakes. My Youngers see me as a role model and I am proud of it. And so far I have been able to use the things that my teacher has taught.
For each imagine a particular place i.e. classroom, room in your home, somewhere you go with your friends.

Task 1

My Personality Test
Personality is what distinguishes us from others. It plays a very important role in each and everyone’s' lives. So, we must develop a good personality for our betterment. So, to know what my personality is I took a personality test as instructed by my teacher via http://www.41q.com. Listed below are my results and my views about the result.

My personality type: "Dreamy Idealist"
Quiet, reflective and idealistic. Interested in serving humanity. Well-developed value system, which they strive to live in accordance with. Extremely loyal. Adaptable and laid-back unless a strongly-held value is threatened. Usually talented writers. Mentally quick and able to see possibilities. Interested in understanding and helping people.
Careers that could fit me include:
Writers, artists, counselors, social workers, English teachers, fine arts teachers, child care workers, clergy, missionaries, psychologists, psychiatrists, scientists, political activists, editors, education consultants, journalists, religious educators, social scientists.

Renowned persons with similar personality types:
  • Albert Schweitzer, theologian, musician and physician

  • James Taylor, singer-songwriter and guitarist
  • John F. Kennedy Jr., lawyer, journalist and publisher
  • Lisa Kudrow, actress
  • Mary, mother of Jesus
  • Peter Jackson, filmmaker
  • Diana Frances Spencer, princess of Wales
  • William Shakespeare, English poet and dramatist
The above result shows that my nature is to believe in myself and that I like to build my belief in myself to move on in my life. It says that I gather information by interpreting patterns, possibilities and meanings from the information that is received.

It seems that when making a decision my feelings, personal values and the feelings of others matters to me a lot. I tend to make decisions slow and my reactions are flexible, and I am able to adapt and deal with the world with proper understanding. These are the results of my personal test.

The result also shows that I have similar personality to famous and renowned person like Mother Mary, William Shakespeare, and Diana Frances Spencer which made pretty excited and fascinated.
The above personality test helped me to really know what kind of personality that I possess. It also helped me to be aware of my positive personality and work on my weakness.

Areas Of Improvement And Action Plans

A person is never perfect and has always space for improvement. As for me, I’m just a bachelor student who has very much to improve on the things that I do. Studying in Islington College has been one of the greatest achievements to build my career. Here, I learned many things. The courses and syllabus of the course are very helpful and helps us to achieve what we aim for.
We just cannot only rely on our courses and expect more. We must show as well as put on our effort and dedication to our works, and only we will reap a fruitful outcome.

I too want to achieve my goals in my days to come. So, I have decided to take certain action plans. There are lecture slides and various materials for us to learn about our courses and the tutorial by our teachers, as we all know that internet has made this world so small that we can get what we are looking for just through the internet, taking help from the internet I have decide to download various tutorial videos and learn and practise what is being taught, making full utilization of time without wasting them. Using Java, Python languages to write programs is not an easy task, so I have made my routine to practise writing programs by downloading sample questions. I would also take help from my teachers and discuss the things that are taught in the class and which I have not understood so that I can understand it well and be without any doubts.

It is my 2nd year of Bachelors in IT and I have learnt many things during this period of time. I learned what was included in my courses and apart from it enhancing presentation skills which will help me later in my future. But this is not sufficient for me unless I don’t put extra efforts. So, I have made certain plans, as discussed above, that I will carry out with which I hope to improve my skills and learning ability to be a successful programmer.

Our modules and their goals.

There are four modules that we are assigned to study in this year. One of it is Problem Solving for IT. This module is interesting as it helps us to use logic. In this module we practice solving all sorts of problems using our logical abilities which to sharpen our minds. This module is very much helpful both in this course of our study as well as in the future because while creating a good program we need to use logic. So, it helps in good software development which I wish to take as my career.
Our second module in this course is Study Skills for Computing. In this module we are being taught how work as a group as well as an individual in doing our projects and presentation. This is to make us independent and also able to work as group later in our jobs. This module also develops our presentation skills which are needed in our work presentation in our career to make us successful person.
Thirdly, we have Logic as another module and it is very much necessary for us in our course of study. This module includes mathematical problems that are being taught and practiced. These mathematical problems are all related to programming and are very much needed during our software development presently as well as in the future while making good software.
Finally, our last module and is Introduction to Programming. This is the main module for us, studying computing. In this module we are taught how to write programming in Java from the beginning to make us very clear about programming language. This module is quite difficult as compared to other modules and needs to be practiced regularly. It helps us to create software and programs which is the main aim for us, as future software engineers.
All the modules that we study are related to each other and are very important to us. Studying all these modules have helped us and will indeed make us successful software engineers if we work hard in coming days.

Achievements and Expectations

Achievements On Entry

Getting into the flow of the lessons that were given by the lecturers and tutors was the first achievements on my entry to this college. As I continued my classes further I got proper guidance to the specific field of interest in the field of education. I also learned to have a proper time management which is very helpful in the future. In my school days, I was very poor at giving presentations and feared to face the crowd. After joining this there were several presentations that we had to work on so this also helped me to develop my presentation skills.
During my school life we had to self-study and work for ourselves but after I began to study here in Islington College we even were told to work in groups which helped to develop team work.
As for lessons that we were taught were very helpful. The education system of Islington College is very beneficial.

My expectations After Bachelors

As for me, I have very high expectations on the result that I’ll be getting after my 3 years course of study. I have been working very hard on my course study so that I can cope up with the ways of teaching and also to have my all workshops done and submitted in time. I know that after I complete my first year and move on to second year and third year and so on, there will more challenges against me for which I have to prepare from the beginning itself which I have been doing, so, I would like to see myself as one of the best programmer and would like to have a result that will help me in my future so that I can be a successful person on the days to come.
